Shepherd's Bush isn't usually an area of London I'd think to stay in until I was offered a night at the Grade II listed building which is the Dorsett Hotel overlooking Shepherd's Bush Green.
The building housing the hotel was originally the Pavilion and it retains the building's historic facade from the outside whilst also boasting modern contemporary design inside. As soon as I arrived at the hotel, I was impressed by it's grandeur both inside and outside and the hotel staff behind the impressive brass reception desk were immediately friendly.
I was given a brief tour of the hotel and after seeing the Jin bar in the golden atrium, I couldn't wait to enjoy a drink there later on so I could continue admiring the wonderful deco inspired elegant architecture that was ambiently lit with soft, mood lighting.
My room was really spacious with a lounge area with a sofa and chairs, desk and eating area off the bedroom and a large bathroom with bath, rain shower and double sinks. The interior of the room had a very upmarket feel with velvet furniture, marble tabletops and bathroom detailing and an opulent gold and brown colour scheme which continued with the Far East influenced wallpaper in the bedroom.
After an evening at an event with friends, I was pleased to slide into my bed that night and after a good night's sleep (the hotel is surprisingly quiet despite it's central Shepherd's Bush location), I packed for my early train before heading down to breakfast in the hotel's main restaurant, Pictures.
The dining room was very busy on arrival but I managed to get a table at the far end of the room. After ordering a pot of tea, I helped myself to the breakfast buffet which I unfortunately felt let the hotel down a little as it was quite plain and disappointing and the quality of the food just didn't match up to the level of the rest of the hotel.
Dorsett Shepherd's Bush is situated in a grand building and the grandness continues throughout the whole hotel interior with well designed and comfortable rooms. If you want to indulge in a spot of shopping then the hotel is perfectly situated for nearby Westfield and for music lovers, the hotel is right next to the Shepherd's Bush Empire gig venue. Whatever the purpose of your trip is, make sure you find the time to enjoy a drink in the hotel's stunning bar area!
