In July, I was visiting London for an overnight work trip and was checking into the new Z Hotel City for the night. I’d heard about Z Hotels before, and as a budget hotel I always wondered if the room sizes would be too small, so when I was offered the chance to review their new hotel I was intrigued to find out.
The new City hotel is in a great location on Fleet Street and on arrival at the hotel, it was an impressive building from the front leading through to a modern reception, with the hotel’s café bar off it. I checked in, and after a couple of mishaps with my key not working, I opened the door to my room and was pleasantly surprised with the size and modern style of it.
I was staying in a Z Queen and it featured a bed by the window, with a TV on the wall opposite and desk area with tea tray next to it, and a wall of hooks with hangers on to hang your clothes next to the door. The bathroom was a separate pod style room with toilet, sink and shower inside.
Now, I can see that it might not be for everyone. If you are looking for a romantic night away, this may not be the place to go, but for a night or two away and especially for business travel, it’s perfect. The room had everything I needed and the view would also have been pretty hard to rival in the most plush of hotels, with the Shard and London Eye clearly visible from my bedroom window.
A nice touch that the hotel offers to guests is complimentary cheese and wine in the café bar from 5-8pm each night. I took my laptop down with me and settled with a plate of cheese, bread, crackers, olives and houmous and a glass of crisp white wine whilst I got on with some work emails using the hotel's complimentary wi-fi.
I had a great nights sleep at Z Hotel – the bed was large and comfortable, the room was quiet and the shower was powerful. Breakfast was also included in my room so I got the lift down to the café bar and ordered a large Cappuccino while I toasted myself some delicious Sourdough bread.
Z Hotel’s are definitely somewhere I would look to stay again – they are an affordable hotel option in London and are perfect for someone visiting for work or a spot of sightseeing.
