Where to go for a stylish UK staycation
It’s been two years since I wrote my first holiday home round-up blog post of UK getaways with stylish interiors. Now, whilst a lot of us either can’t or don’t feel comfortable to travel abroad for a holiday, it feels very timely for another round-up to help you discover some more stylish gems to get away to for a break.
I don’t like to do things by halves, so I feel like I’ve searched all of the internet recently for a holiday cottage for myself and Steve to head away to for a much needed change of scenery. A lot of the cottages I found were already booked up for the dates we wanted to travel, but I didn’t want all my searching and discoveries to go to waste, so I thought I’d save you the hassle and compile another 15 lovely UK holiday homes to visit. To be honest, this list is as much for me to remember the places I’ve found and I still refer back to the previous list I’ve compiled for inspiration! Remember to check that out, if you haven’t already, for some more staycation ideas.
So, here they are. There are houses situated on their own on the beach, homes with hot tubs and cottages with stunning views. And the one thing they all have in common? They all have great interiors - for me, that is a something important when I’m going away and I often pick up inspiration for my own home when staying in other properties. I’ve separated the list into three categories; ‘boltholes’ for ultimate relaxation, ‘scenic’ properties by the beach or with stunning views and those near to pubs and restaurants for ‘explorers’. Enjoy… let me know if you book in with any of them!
THE BOLTHOLES:
Salt Cottage - Norfolk
Sleeps 2, from £900 per week - this property, situated in the grounds of Sharrington Hall, is the definition of Hygge, with pared back interiors such as exposed wood, sheepskins and a calming colour palette. The four poster bed, roll-top bath, log burner and private terrace are just what you need to relax. The property is situated in the grounds of Sharrington Hall along with 4 other properties available to book.
The Field Barn - The Cotswolds
Sleeps 4, from £900 per week - this is a statement barn conversation by a florist and a timber trader, with spacious open plan living set amidst wonderful views. It features lots of upcycled and vintage furniture and is really beautifully designed. There are pubs and restaurants within two miles or they can also provide a two-course dinner - you don’t really need to go out when the surroundings are this lovely!
Spinks Nest - Norfolk
Sleeps 2, from £1050 for a week - this is such a cosy cottage and it reminds me of the Soho House properties in its styling. It has reclaimed beams, mismatched patterned upholstery and lots of quirky retro items, such as taxidermy and old books, which gives it a stylish vintage feel. There is also Aesop toiletries and a cement bath! It’s a really unique property, which is the perfect hideaway for two.
Seaves Mill, Yorkshire
Sleeps 4, from £855 for a week - I’ve saved this cottage for a while and I keep meaning to book in for a visit! I just love the modern retro interior, with exposed beams, rustic decor and the most amazing round log burner! The property is just as pretty on the outside as it is inside too. It’s situated just over 13 miles from York, so a great base for both a countryside and city break (if you can make yourself leave!).
Ty Bach, Powys
Sleeps 2, from £599 for 7 nights - now, if you want the ultimate place to switch off, it’s here! With no electricity, heating is provided via a log burner and light via rechargeable lamps. There is an outdoor tub to bathe in and a log fuelled hot tub to watch the stars. If you’re worried about keeping your drinks cool, there is a fridge and freezer available in the nearby barn. It’s nestled within the hills, but is also 5 miles away from Hay-on-Wye. I keep being drawn back to this place, as I think it looks like the perfect place to relax!
THE SCENIC:
Libertine, Cornwall
Sleeps 2, from £850 for 7 nights - this converted barn has lovely green woodland views and it is also walking distance to the beach (Perranporth) and Goonhaven village. It looks like the ideal place to switch off and take some time out, but I like the fact that you are also not too far from pubs and restaurants if you fancy heading out. The interior decor has a vintage rustic charm and I love the pops of colour used throughout.
Shangri-La House, Norfolk
Sleeps 6, from £1351 - this is such a beautiful spot for a holiday home. Tucked away right on the beach, it is a very fancy architecturally designed seaside shack and the simple and minimal Scandi style furnishings really work with the coastal setting. It’s a proper wow property - imagine spending New Year’s here?! It would be pretty special. This is largely booked up currently, so one to keep an eye on!
Walden Lodge, Glamorgan
Sleeps 2-4, from £1010 for 7 nights - This is another property right on the beach for the ultimate seaside escape. A wooden lodge with a sandy beach right in front of the door, it has an off-grid vibe to it and is a perfect choice for switching off and taking in some glorious fresh Welsh air and picturesque views. The decor is a mixture of vintage alongside a rustic Scandi style and it looks cosy, especially in front of the log burner or looking out onto the beach from the veranda.
Calder Cottage, Northumberland
Sleeps 2, from £450 for 7 nights - I’ve been wanting to explore the Northumberland coast for a while, so this one is on my list to book in the not too distant future. Really reasonably priced, it has lovely hillside and seaside views with its own terrace and and the decor is cosy and comfortable with vintage touches. It is quite a small cottage, but perfect for two and I love the little dining booth for evenings in front of the fire. The company also hire out cabins for glamping and those are worth a look at too!
Carren Bach Cottage, Pembrokeshire
Sleeps 4, from £1204 for 7 nights - I think this cottage looks just dreamy! The exterior is just as lovely as the interior and it is a barn conversation with an idyllic terrace with field views, and includes a hot tub, chiminea shed and a BBQ deck. The decor is modern with lots of vintage and rustic furnishings, such as old signage, exposed wood and a retro record player. It looks like a great spot to spend a weekend with mates enjoying lots of food, drink and fresh air.
THE EXPLORERS:
Sycamore House, Hay-on-Wye
Sleeps 10, from £1400 for 7 nights - This lovely house is situated in the charming town of Hay-on-Wye, well known for its many bookshops. It’s a large 3-storey house and has a gorgeous decor that is full of character, with lots of vintage and retro furnishings, patterned wallpaper and fabrics, wood panelling and lots of light. The house also has a good sized walled garden with a terrace for food and drink. It has all the local amenities of Hay-on-Wye, but is also in a picturesque spot for lots of walking. They also have a gorgeous sister property - Tigharry Schoolhouse.
Jenny’s Place, Lancaster
Sleeps 2, from £889 for 7 nights - This little getaway for two is situated with views of Lancaster Castle from the cute living room window seat. It has a chalet feel with lots of white panelled walls, light decor and exposed wood. I love the fact the bed and bathroom with copper bath tub are hidden away behind doors - the ideal way to relax! It is situated in Lancaster, so near to lots of bars and restaurants, and it’s also a great spot for exploring the nearby Lake District. I couldn’t find a name for this, but it’s owned by a lady called Jenny, so I’ve called it Jenny’s Place!
Craftsman Cottage, Wiltshire
Sleeps 6, from £1995 - this is such an idyllic cottage with a charming and stylish interior in a really picturesque village. Featuring lots of antiques and also furnishings from the likes of Heal’s, Original BTC and Anglepoise, it has a luxurious yet homely feel throughout and I love the use of floral wallpaper and fabrics. It has a pretty garden, which also houses an annex that can be booked additionally to the cottage if you need a space for more than 6. The village has a local shop and a pub, which is perfect for an evening or lunch out. It’s also only 3 miles away from the ancient Anglo Saxon hill top town of Shaftesbury for a day out.
The Dairy, Worcestershire
Sleeps 2, from £709 for 7 nights - This is a really stylish cottage for two, that is situated within beautiful gardens with various spots for relaxing with a book and a glass of something cold. The owner’s home is situated in the same grounds, as they also have a B&B with two guest rooms. The Dairy has a really modern Scandi interior with touches of vintage decor and I just love the roll top bath in the bedroom, which is a perfect spot for some me-time. It’s situated in the Village of Eckington, which has a local shop and two pubs, so ideal for a couple of evenings out without the car. It’s also right near The Cotswolds for some idyllic countryside exploring. We have actually booked to stay here already and I can’t wait!
The House on the Corner, Gwynedd
Sleeps 8, from £923 for 7 nights - This is a lovely retro white and yellow house, which was built in the 1960’s by the owners grandparents. It still has some of the original features and I love the retro blue kitchen with the hatch through to the living/dining area! It has a beach house feel to it with lots of vintage midcentury and modern decor. It is just a short walk to the beach and it is also close to pubs and a cafe and also within easy access to both Snowdon and Llyn for outdoor exploring.
